Well, we finally did it. We finally got ourselves a new piano. Well, new to us!
When we moved from Texas to Colorado last year we couldn’t take our beloved piano with us. I know, we have the serious sads over it.
Apparently it is very bad to take an antique piano that has lived its entire life (built in 1904!) in a humid climate like Texas to the dry climate like Colorado. It’s definitely an antique, and was passed down to me from my grandparents. When we moved we gave the piano to my sister which is actually quite fitting because she named her little daughter after said grandma. Cue the awes.
We found this almost-identical if you can even believe it!!! piano on a local FB sale page and jumped on it the second I saw it. It was fate. We got it for a steal ($100). It actually cost more to have it delivered to our house than the piano itself cost ($200 delivery fee).
The movers did a great job even though the beast weighs a ton! That’s what you get for buying a 5′ tall antique upright, amiright?
Before the guys had the truck loaded back up, Travis was already glued to the piano. Seriously. He played it almost non-stop for over a week straight. We would wait in line and fight over it.
Once the novelty wore off slightly, I pounced on the bench for a quick makeover. The fabric it came with was so gross.
I took the top off, then gave it a quick wrap of some pretty fabric I had in my stash. I left the old fabric on and just covered right over it. This way it stays nice and soft for your tush.
Covering a rectangle with fabric is super easy. Using a staple gun staple the fabric tightly on either side.
Then fold over the ends and staple them. After it was stapled I trimmed off the excess fabric, and voila, DONE.
Beautiful.
We miss our old one, but we are definitely smitten with the new one.

Congratulations on finding a beautiful antique piano just waiting to have awesome memories made with your family! I love the fabric you recoved the bench with too. I always feel so accomplished when I recover something and even when it’s a simple rectangle it makes a huge difference. Can’t wait to see what else you do with your new home. Glad to have you back 🙂
Glad you found a new piano. However, why did you leave that gross fabric on? If you are wanting some extra padding some nice new clean batting would be lovely.
